Most of the people who need to open your gate are not members of your building. They are the cleaner who comes on Tuesdays, the guests arriving for a weekend, the plumber, the courier who cannot reach the parcel room. Asking each of them to create an account, install an app and remember a password is how buildings end up back on a shared code.
EMMTRY handles these people with links, not apps. This article explains what the link is, what it can and cannot do, and how the schedule behind it works.
What a guest actually receives
When you invite a guest, they get an email with a secure link. Tapping it opens a page in their phone's browser with the entrances you granted and a button to open each one. That is the whole experience on their side:
- no app to install,
- no account to create,
- no password to remember,
- nothing to hand back when they leave.
The link is unique to that person and that invitation. It is not a code that can be read over a shoulder, and it cannot be typed into a keypad by someone who overheard it.
The schedule is the credential
The important part is not the link itself but the visitor schedule attached to it. A schedule answers three questions:
- Which entrances? One gate, a group of doors, or a whole zone of the property.
- From when to when? A check-in and check-out time for a stay, or a recurring window such as Tuesdays 08:00 to 12:00 for a cleaner.
- What happens outside the window? Nothing. The button is there, but the platform refuses the request and logs the attempt.
Because the schedule is enforced by the platform at the moment of each request, there is nothing to revoke when the stay ends. The link simply stops opening anything. If plans change, you extend or shorten the schedule and the same link keeps working.
What the log shows
Every open through a guest link is recorded with the guest's name, the entrance and the time, alongside member activity. Denied attempts outside the schedule are recorded too. For a holiday rental that means you can see that the guests arrived at 16:40 on Friday and that the cleaner did not come on Tuesday, without asking anyone.
Tenants who manage their own guests
In a building with many households, the owner should not be the bottleneck for every dinner guest. EMMTRY solves this with tenant units: each apartment or villa is a unit, and the tenant is its manager. Tenants invite their own guests to the shared gates, on schedules they control, while the building owner keeps full visibility in the activity log and can override anything.
The result is the same separation that makes the rest of the platform work. The tenant decides who, the owner decides what is possible, and the log records what happened.
Limits worth knowing
A few things a guest link deliberately does not do:
- It does not grant management rights. A guest cannot see other people, change schedules or invite anyone else.
- It does not outlive its schedule. There is no "permanent guest" by accident; a guest who needs open-ended access should be invited as a member instead.
- It does not work offline. The request goes through the platform so that the schedule and the log are enforced. Members using the app have a Bluetooth path to the EMMTRY 5G controller when standing next to it; guest links do not.
Setting one up
From the app or the web dashboard: pick the entrances, enter the guest's email or phone number, set the window, send. The invitation is delivered immediately and appears in your visitor list with its status.
