Up and running in minutes
Everything you need to set up EMMTRY, invite people and manage access with confidence. Start with the basics below.
Quick start
Four steps from unboxing to opening your first gate from your phone.
-
1
Create your account
Sign up with email or a Google / Apple account, then create your first property.
-
2
Add a device
Wire a Shelly relay to your gate, door or strike, connect it to power and the network, and pair it in the app.
-
3
Invite people
Add family, tenants or staff by email or phone. Each person gets their own key you can revoke anytime.
-
4
Open from anywhere
Tap to open from the app, and watch every entry appear in the activity log in real time.
Step by step
The seven things every property does in its first month, in the order they usually happen.
Pairing a Shelly device
Power the relay and make sure it can reach your network. For WiFi models, check the signal where the relay will actually sit: a gate at the end of a driveway is often out of range of the house router, and a wired Shelly Pro or the EMMTRY 5G controller avoids the problem.
In the app, open Devices and choose Add device. The app finds the relay over Bluetooth, gives it your WiFi details and connects it to your account with its own credentials. Every connection between the device, the apps and the servers is encrypted.
Give the device a name, put it in a location, and open its settings to choose the relay behaviour that matches your lock: a short pulse for strikes and gate motors, or separate open and close outputs for gates that need both.
Locations, zones and groups
A location is a property: a building, a villa complex, an office. Zones divide it, such as the street gate, the garage or the third floor. Devices belong to a location and can be placed in zones.
Access groups bundle entrances with the people who may use them. "All tenants" with the street gate and the garage is one group; adding a new tenant to it grants both entrances at once, and removing them takes both away.
Roles: what each role can do
Owner: everything, including members and deleting the account. Admin: manage devices, people, groups and schedules. Member: use the entrances they were granted and see their own activity. Guest: use only what they were invited to, for as long as the invitation lasts.
The same four roles apply to the account, to a group and to a single device, so you can make someone the admin of one entrance without giving them the building.
Inviting members and guests
Members: enter an email address or phone number. They receive a link to sign in without a password, and their key appears in their app immediately.
Guests: pick the entrances, set the window (a stay, or a recurring schedule such as Tuesdays 08:00 to 12:00) and send. Guests open the entrances from the link in their browser. No app or account is needed, and access ends by itself.
Tenant units: create a unit for each apartment and make the tenant its manager. They invite their own guests to the shared gates while you keep the log and the final say.
Activity and notifications
The Activity page lists every event across your entrances: who opened what and when, denied attempts, devices going offline and back online, and changes made by admins. Filter by entrance, person or date, and export what you need.
Push notifications tell you the moment something happens: an unlock, a door left open, a device that drops offline. Each person only receives notifications for entrances they are allowed to see.
Replacing a device
If a relay fails, pair its replacement and use Swap device on the old one. Every grant, group membership, schedule and zone assignment moves to the new device; nobody has to be re-invited. The old device is retired and keeps its history.
When a device shows offline
Check power first, then the network: WiFi models need a stable signal where they are mounted, and a router restart drops them for a moment. The device reconnects on its own, and the app announces it the moment it does.
If it stays offline, open the device in the app for its last status and connection log, and contact support with the device name.
Explore the basics
Guests & visitors
Send a time-limited link or code. Guests don't need the app, and access expires automatically.
Groups & roles
Bundle doors into groups and assign owner, admin, member or guest roles to control who can do what.
Activity log
A complete, searchable record of who opened what and when — across every entrance.
Replacing a device
Swap a broken controller and every grant, group and schedule transfers automatically.
